Leading the team in the state tournament was junior Ross Oliveri, who placed 4th in the 215# weight class.  Ross also placed 5th in the Cashio-Schreiver Tournament. - "This was the first time that I placed in State.  It's my second year  wrestling and it amazing to win when I was underweight and wrestling stronger opponents."

Junior Shawn Debenport placed 2nd in the Mandeville Open in the 285# (heavyweight) weight class.  He placed 4th in the Casio-Shreiver Tournament at 215#s, and 3rd at the Pearl River Open at 215#s as well.

Junior Charles Shankle placed 2nd at the John Ehret J.V./J.H. tournament, and junior Nick Pence placed 3rd at 125#s.

An injury prevented senior Toi Bridges from competing in the state tournament.  Others who did compete were freshmen Robbie Evans, Josh Lavarine, Sophomore Paul Nguyen, junior Nick Spence and Jacob Serigny.

QUOTABLES

"It was something I had never tried before and it was a good experience."

- Michael Peytavin - sophomore.

"My favorite thing about wrestling was when I wrestled in Cashio and came in 4th place.  I have been wrestling for three years."

- Shawn Debenport - junior.

"I did not follow through with my training.  I tried to do my own thing. I wrestle to inspire myself and others.   Down the line I want my kids to see what their father has done."

- Toi Bridges - senior.

"The season was great.  We had a lot of first-timers so we struggled some.  We are already working hard for next year, and I think our experience from this year should be a great foundation for years to come.

- Head Coach Lee Abbott

"My favorite thing about this season was trying something new and learning a new sport.   I also liked meeting new people and making new friends."

- Josh Lavarine - sophomore.

Ross Oliveri, in the 215# weight class, wrestles Walker Ashburn of John Curtis Christian School and wins.  "I was doing a head-arm' throw,"  Ross said.  "All of my opponents were stronger than me, but this time I ws able to throw him over and get the pin."
