Grace King 48 - De La Salle 18
November 14th, 2007
A JOB WELL DONE!
Granted, we technically got killed by forfeits in the official match at 48-18. But of the five official matches that were wrestled, we won three of them. Of the eleven actual matches held, we won seven! Coaches Abbott and Muller are very proud of the efforts put forth by all team members. Mistakes were certainly made, but even in the matches that were lost by DLS wrestlers, the coaches saw many positive aspects.
Kudos to to all re:
Matt Roden for winning two matches;
Shawn and Ross for winning their matches, albeit not prettily, but certainly effectively;
Shawn and Ross also get credit for their coaching skills while other teammates were wrestling;
Brandon for his bridging after putting himself in serious trouble but "gutting it out" as best he could. Brandon does get two extra "gassers" on November 15th for suggesting that he quit the team. The DLS coaches will not allow that much natural potential to walk away;
Josh for listening to his coaches and having faith in his takedown abilities, particularly re sprawling in his second match.
More pictures will be available soon. Mr. Lavarine took almost 100 of them, so I need a little time to name, edit and publish them!
Jacob Kornman is my MVP for this match. He won his first match and finally listened to Coach Abbott, Coach Martin, Shawn and Ross re getting his arm from underneath his opponent's back whilst trying to pin him. Waiting for the referee with his hand upheld after the referee incorrectly recognized the other wrestler as the winner was priceless!
Special thanks to Rue as our team photographer prior to the match (and for mentioning that some of my software can adjust lighting re photographs). Also, very special thanks to Mr. Lavarine for taking almost 100 pictures during our matches.

A special guest for Coach Martin at this match was Dr. Stephen Kantrow, the other 1980 St. Martin's state champion (at 132#s). |
